Living Well with Type 1 Diabetes

27th January 2020

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is when your body cannot physically make a hormone called Insulin.  Without insulin, your body cannot effectively control your blood sugar resulting in high blood sugar levels.  It is a serious, lifelong condition that needs to be well managed.

There are lots of things available to support the management of T1D, including:

Technology - Technological developments make it easier than ever to effectively manage your diabetes.  Find out more HERE and HERE

Digital Apps - Managing your carbohydrate (carbs) intake in your diet is an essential part of managing diabetes. Make your carb counting easier through the Carbs & Cals app, available through google play and iTunes online stores.  The app is also available in book format from online and high street book stores.

Emotional Wellbeing & Mental Health Support - We have established a diabetes specific therapy service with our Steps2Change service.  If you have low mood, anxiety and/or depression, which you feel is impacting on your diabetes management, refer yourself today.

Education - Online T1D specific is available online.  We recommend the BERTIE programme, which is what the face to face sessions in Lincolnshire are based on.  Access it for free.

Advice - More advice can be found on Diabetes UK’s website or speak to your Diabetic Specialist Healthcare Professional.
