Celebrating Volunteers' Week 2025

Volunteers’ Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the amazing people who give their time, energy, and care to support others across the UK – and that includes Lincolnshire, of course.

Every day, volunteers are changing lives. Whether they’re helping someone navigate care systems and processes, involved in the co-production of health services, or simply lending a listening ear, or offering a friendly face, they’re making a real difference to health and care delivery in Lincolnshire.

The contribution of volunteers is more vital than ever.

Volunteering and personalised care go hand in hand

Volunteering is about people helping people. And that’s exactly what personalised care is too - care that puts the individual at the centre, shaped around their needs, goals, and preferences. Volunteers bring the human touch, along with personal experience, skills, and insight, to health and care, making services more personal, connected, compassionate, and effective.

Whether it’s helping someone find their voice in care planning, supporting emotional wellbeing, or simply being there to walk alongside someone, volunteers help ensure people feel seen, heard, and valued. That’s what personalisation is all about.

This week is for you

If you’re a volunteer - whether you’ve just begun or you’ve been giving back for years - take a moment this week to feel proud and to reflect. You’re part of something powerful and wonderful. You’re helping to build a more caring, person-centred and connected world. Thank you.

Why volunteer?

Because it’s good for you and good for others!

Volunteering isn’t just about giving your time—it’s about discovering how powerful your time can be.

When you volunteer, you’re making a real, positive difference in someone’s life (and often your own). Whether it’s a simple smile, a helping hand, or a few hours a week, it all adds up.

Benefits for you:

  • The feel-good factor: Helping others just feels great! Volunteering gives you a real sense of purpose and can boost your mood and self-esteem.
  • New skills, new you: Whether you're organising events, tutoring, or planting trees, you're learning valuable skills that can help in life and work.
  • Make new friends: Volunteering is a great way to meet people from different walks of life. It builds connections and a sense of community.
  • Career boost: It looks fantastic on a CV or college application. It shows you're proactive, caring, and committed.
  • A fresh perspective: Volunteering opens your eyes to different ways of life and helps you appreciate what you have.
  • Stress less: Giving your time to others has been shown to reduce stress and even improve your mental health.

Benefits for others and the community:

  • Support where it's needed most: Volunteers often provide support that would not exist otherwise.
  • Stronger communities: Acts of kindness and teamwork make neighbourhoods safer, friendlier, and more connected.
  • Inspiration in action: Seeing people volunteer encourages others to get involved too. It's contagious in the best way.
  • Real change: From being a charity trustee to picking litter to mentoring young people, volunteers make a visible, positive impact on the world around them.
  • Hope and humanity: In times of need, volunteers bring comfort, support, and a sense of hope to those who are struggling.

Whether you’ve got 30 minutes or 3 days a week, there’s a role that fits your life, your passions, and your goals.

Volunteering is for everyone - including you.
