Ruth Taylor, Maximising Independence Worker, Adult Social Care, Lincolnshire County Council

Ruth is a truly outstanding Champion who consistently gives her time, energy and expertise to support the programme. She regularly attends training sessions, actively contributes to reflective practice discussions, and is always willing to share learning and information with colleagues across her team. Her enthusiasm and commitment help to embed a strengths-based approach in everyday practice and inspire others to do the same.

Ruth describes her work as being all about meeting people where they are.  She takes the time to understand how individuals feel about their current situation, explore their hopes and goals for the future, and identify what matters most to them. Together, they then create achievable goals and work step by step at a pace the person needs.

What makes Ruth such a passionate advocate for this approach is that she sees the difference it makes every day. She supports people to build confidence, develop new skills and connect with their communities. Whether it is learning household tasks, exploring assistive technology, gaining confidence in using public transport, trying new activities, or building safer and more fulfilling lives, Ruth empowers people to achieve outcomes that are meaningful to them.

Ruth is a fantastic example of person-centred practice in action. She demonstrates that adult social care in Lincolnshire works best when support is truly centred on the individual, focused on what people want to achieve, delivered in their own way, in their own time, and with trusted support alongside them.
